"Digital Citizenship: the positive, safe interaction, communication, and responsibility of all users of technology." -Brittany C. Tracy
"Digital Citizenship can be defined as the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use." --Mike Ribble from http://learntech.ties.k12.mn.us/digital_citizenship.html
Teaching Digital Citizenship is important in schools because for ten months out of the year students are learning these same types of social interactions in a face-to-face setting. Students need to be taught what is appropriate and inappropriate, how to behave while using technology, what their responsibilities are while using technology, how to be safe, how to communicate with others, how to protect themselves from harmful websites, strangers, and their reputation. These skills and more are essential for students to learn. If we are teaching students these social norms for technology, we can help our students become not only the best citizens that they can be, but the best digital citizens that they can be.

This website investigates the many facets of the term digital citizenship by defining, explaining, providing examples, lesson plans, and games so that all users of technology will be able to evaluate their own technology use and that of their children or students.
This website was created for middle school students, parents, teachers, and other community members. Toward the bottom of each content page you will find resources for teachers, parents, and students. The resources may include but are not limited to informational websites, interactive games, quizzes, articles, pledges, and videos. The hope is that everyone will find at least one piece of information useful so that they will make more conscientious decisions while working with technology.
